We often receive
inquiries from insurance companies asking, "Can the AFEX Fire
Suppression System reduce my fire loss claims from my policy
holders?" Our answer: YES, but it does require a commitment to
maintenance and education of the owners and operators of what to do in the
case of fire.
A study of fire loss insurance claims found that equipment fires most often resulted in
total losses. Also, fires frequently occur while the equipment is unattended.
That's why an automatic fire suppression system is recommended for
equipment used in the logging industry. We have worked with several
insurance companies to help them successfully reduce fire related losses.
Some insurance
companies implemented loss control programs that require that equipment be
equipped with fire suppression systems before they will write a policy
protecting it. Successful programs have one component in common:
a commitment to semiannual inspection and maintenance.
The AFEX system is
durable, reliable and low maintenance. Nevertheless, it, too, needs
regular service to ensure that it is operating properly when needed.
Semiannual inspections normally take 1-2 hours - a small sacrifice for the
reassurance that the system is working properly. Further, these
inspections can take place during the normal maintenance schedules of the
machine to reduce the down-time of the operation.
If you are an
equipment owner, ask your insurance company about discounts for having
AFEX systems installed on your equipment.
