Fire Protection For
Slag & Steel Handling Equipment

AFEX offers the
only manual back up system that
delivers two system discharges to give you maximum protection in a
dangerous environment.
Heavy equipment
operating in steel mills faces the most abusive conditions. The extreme heat
alone is enough to turn a leaking hydraulic hose into a blazing fire. While
traditional fire suppression systems offer an effective means of attacking heavy
equipment fires with a single discharge of dry chemical agent, the high risk of
re-ignition in steel mill environments complicates your fire fighting efforts.
The AFEX
"Manual Back-Up (MBU) Series" Fire Suppression System is designed
especially for slag and steel handling applications. Only the AFEX "MBU
Series" System features a manually operated "back-up" dry
chemical extinguisher tank to double your protection with a second
optional discharge.
How does it
work? A fire
initiates in the engine compartment of the machine while in operation. The
operator actuates the first discharge to knock down the fire. In the event of
re-ignition, perhaps while the operator maneuvers the machine away from the work
area, the operator may actuate the reserve system to suppress the fire a second
time. Once the machine is parked and the fire extinguished, the cause can be
determined and corrected.
AFEX systems are installed on
pot carriers, slab carriers, large fork trucks, wheel loaders and other slag and
steel handling equipment. AFEX
distributors are trained and experienced professionals who know heavy equipment
and are comfortable working in a slag and steel mill environment.
AFEX customers in this
industry include numerous landfills and transfer stations across the US operated
by C.J. Langenfelder, International Mill Service, Olympic Mill Service and
others.
