Raleigh, NC, USA, September 1, 2026 – AFEX Fire Suppression Systems, specialists in designing and manufacturing fire protection systems for heavy-duty mobile equipment, will participate in Argentina Shale Production 2026, September 23–24, 2026, at the Hotel Emperador Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Two members of the AFEX leadership team will take the stage to discuss fire protection for equipment operating in demanding shale and mining environments.
Roberto Hung, Vice President of Latin America Sales, and Joshua Jones, Vice President of AFEX’s Oil, Gas & Energy Division, will present “Fire Suppression for Argentina’s Shale and Mining Operations” on Thursday, September 24, from 2:30-3:00p.m.
Argentina Shale Production 2026 brings together exploration and production companies, equipment manufacturers, service providers, and technical experts to discuss technologies and strategies for improving production across Argentina’s shale fields. AFEX is listed among the event’s featured speakers alongside representatives from across the energy industry.
Addressing Fire Risk in Demanding Operating Environments

Heavy equipment used in shale, oil and gas, and mining operations is routinely exposed to conditions that can increase fire risk, including high temperatures, vibration, dust, debris, combustible fluids, and demanding operating cycles.
During their presentation, Hung and Jones will discuss how purpose-built fire suppression can help operators protect personnel and critical equipment, reduce the potential for an equipment fire to threaten surrounding assets and infrastructure, and strengthen operational resilience and production continuity.
“Argentina represents an important and rapidly developing market for both energy and mining,” said Hung. “As operations expand and equipment is pushed to perform in increasingly demanding environments, fire protection should be considered as part of the overall approach to equipment safety and reliability. We look forward to sharing what AFEX has learned from protecting heavy equipment in similar applications throughout Latin America and around the world.”
The presentation will explore several considerations for equipment fire protection, including:
- Fire risks associated with critical shale and mining equipment
- System performance in environments with heat, dust, vibration, and corrosive conditions
- Automatic fire detection and suppression
- Multi-agent fire suppression options and application considerations
- Protecting equipment while supporting production continuity
- Lessons learned from heavy equipment applications across South American mining operations

Protecting Critical Oil, Gas, and Energy Equipment

A fire involving a frac unit, drilling support vehicle, pump, generator, or other critical piece of field equipment can quickly affect more than the machine where the fire begins. In oil and gas operations, equipment often works near personnel, other high-value assets, combustible materials, and critical infrastructure. An uncontrolled equipment fire can therefore create risk for the surrounding operation while potentially leading to equipment damage, production interruptions, investigations, repairs, and extended downtime.
“When we talk about fire risk, we’re not just talking about the piece of equipment where the fire starts,” said Jones. “We have to consider the people working around it, the equipment operating beside it, and the surrounding site. A fire on one asset has the potential to become a much larger event. The goal of fire suppression is to intervene at the equipment level before that fire has an opportunity to spread, protecting people first while helping safeguard the broader operation and keep production moving.”
Jones brings more than 15 years of industry experience and specializes in fire suppression solutions for hydraulic fracturing, drilling, and other oil, gas, and energy applications.
Hung, an engineer and experienced business executive, brings extensive knowledge of Latin American industrial markets and technology implementation. He works closely with AFEX customers and distribution partners throughout the region to develop fire protection solutions for demanding heavy-equipment applications.
Supporting Growth in Vaca Muerta and Across Argentina
The new 3-gallon system uses AFEX’s SAFE-X liquid fire suppression agent, a fluorine-free solution designed to quickly suppress The presentation comes as investment and activity continue to accelerate in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale formation. The event reports that hydraulic fracturing activity in Vaca Muerta is projected to increase significantly in 2026, with more than 28,000 frac stages and billions of dollars in capital investment anticipated across the play.
The continued development of Vaca Muerta is increasing the importance of equipment reliability, production efficiency, and risk management throughout the region.
For AFEX, that growth creates an opportunity to bring fire protection practices developed specifically for heavy-duty equipment to more operators throughout Argentina.
“Our role goes beyond supplying a fire suppression system,” Hung said. “We want to work with operators, OEMs, distributors, and service organizations to understand the equipment and its hazards, determine the appropriate protection, and ensure that system can be properly supported throughout the life of the machine.”
