Third-Party Approvals & Certifications

WHY DO CERTIFICATIONS MATTER?

At AFEX Fire Suppression Systems, we prioritize safety and reliability through rigorous third-party testing and certifications. Our systems are designed to meet and exceed industry standards, ensuring optimal performance in protecting your heavy-duty mobile equipment.

Choosing a certified fire suppression system provides several key benefits:

Proven Performance

Third-party testing ensures our systems effectively detect and suppress fires in real-world conditions.

Regulatory Compliance

Our certifications help your equipment meet industry and safety standards worldwide.

Increased Equipment Uptime

Certified systems minimize fire-related downtime and protect your investment.

Insurance & Liability Benefits

Using a certified system may help with insurance requirements and reduce liability risks.

Global Acceptance

Certifications allow our fire suppression systems to be used across multiple industries and regions.

FM 5970:2022 Certification

AFEX fire suppression systems are certified to FM 5970:2022, the globally recognized standard for fire suppression on heavy-duty mobile equipment (HDME). This certification—developed specifically for off-road machines used in industries like mining, forestry, waste management, and construction—sets the highest benchmark for system performance and reliability.

To earn FM Approval, our systems underwent over 100 rigorous tests, simulating the extreme conditions these machines operate in daily. These include:

  • Vibration & Shock Resistance – Ensures durability in harsh, high-impact environments.
  • Temperature Extremes – Proven performance in both extreme heat and freezing cold.
  • Corrosion Testing – Protects against rust and chemical exposure.
  • Agent Effectiveness – Confirms fast, reliable fire suppression in real-world conditions.

AS 5062:2022 Certification

AFEX fire suppression systems are certified to AS 5062:2022, the Australian standard for fire protection on mobile and transportable equipment. This certification ensures our systems meet stringent performance and reliability requirements for high-risk environments.

AFEX was also the first company to receive AS 5062:2022 certification for a liquid agent fire suppression system. This achievement highlights our commitment to advancing fire suppression technology. Additionally, our SAFE-X liquid agent is fluorine-free, meeting modern environmental and safety standards while delivering industry-leading fire suppression performance.

Third-Party Certifications & Approvals FAQ

Third-party approvals show that a fire suppression system has been independently tested or evaluated against recognized standards. For heavy-duty mobile equipment, this helps confirm that the system is designed to perform reliably in harsh environments where heat, vibration, dust, debris, and demanding operating conditions are common.
AFEX fire suppression systems are backed by recognized third-party certifications and approvals, including FM Approvals FM 5970 HDME, ActivFire/Australian Standard AS 5062, ISO 9001:2015, and CE. These certifications support system performance, quality management, and compliance expectations across industries and regions.
FM 5970 HDME is important because heavy-duty mobile equipment faces fire risks that are different from buildings or fixed facilities. Machines operate in harsh, high-vibration environments with hot surfaces, hydraulic fluids, electrical components, and debris buildup, so fire suppression systems must be tested specifically for mobile equipment applications.
AS 5062 is an Australian standard for fire protection systems used on mobile and transportable equipment. It provides requirements for system design, installation, detection, actuation, agent application, documentation, and ongoing maintenance.
ISO 9001:2015 is a quality management certification. It shows that a company follows documented processes for quality control, continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and consistent product delivery.

ISO 9001:2015 matters because fire suppression systems must be built consistently and reliably. For heavy equipment operators, working with an ISO-certified manufacturer provides confidence that the company follows formal quality processes from design and production through customer support.
Yes. Certification does not eliminate the need for inspection, maintenance, or recertification. Fire suppression systems must be maintained according to manufacturer instructions, applicable standards, and site requirements to help ensure they remain ready to operate when needed.
